Techniques Taught

A good simple dancing posture that is suitable for a beginner

SIDE HIPS and SHIMMIES
Learning to isolate the hip area, taking hips from side to side in varied tempos such as half time, single time, double time, and full time SHIMMIES. Executing the side hips at a stationary position, then learning to to step around, stepping forwards and backwards with rhythm and varied tempos. Varied arm techniques are added. Featuring 2 extra practice segment to highlight beat, rhythm, tempo and melody.

HIP DROPS
Isolating the hip area. Practicing the hip drops in a stationary position, then stepping forwards and back. Also adding simple arm techniques

FIGURE EIGHT
Both inside and outside. Learning to isolate each hip to form the figure eight. Dancing on the spot (or stationary), then stepping around, dancing forwards and backwards with rhythm and timing.

HIP TILT
This is an excellent movement to get you flexible in the hip area. This movement helps to cement the pelvic hip circle.
This is also a great strengthening movement for the pelvic floor muscles.

HIP CIRCLE
Learn the creation of a smooth pelvic hip circle, step by step. The circles are taught and practiced in varied sizes of small, medium and large, stationary and stepping around. This 8 minute segment also becomes a delightful practice dance.

A Delightful Practice Dance
Featuring the (varied) pelvic hip circles, then alternating with most of the techniques learned so far, such as the figure eight, varied side hips, hip drops, steps and turns with some of the arm / hand techniques. Including emotional moods, varied appropriate smiles and a finishing pose

ARMS and HANDS
These are learned and practiced separately first. Then the arms are practiced with simple hip techniques separately. They consist of the beautiful hand twirl, steeple, peaceful hands, temple buff, crossing up and down, ocean wave and snake arms. In some segments they are used to show emotional and artistic expression.

ELEGANT SHOULDER ROLLS - SHOULDER PRESSES - ACCENTING
Learning to isolate and roll each shoulder, then alternating from right to left. Pressing shoulders forward is the technique that gets you (flexible) to accomplish the shoulder shimmies with ease. Shoulder presses are often used to accent the beat. Also combining hip techniques with shoulder techniques to accomplish a full body movement. A flexible shoulder roll also helps to achieve better and smoother snake arms.

Choreographed Dance

One beautifully crafted dance combining most techniques taught in volume one. From the Top - Highlighting a charming entry, beginning with steps, good posture and arms. Featuring the Techniques within Middle Eastern rhythm, tempos and melody. Concluding with a interesting ending and final pose.
